My name is Zaid and I am a part of the video committee. We have only made one video so far but we are working on one right now. We will be posting our videos about upcoming events that we will have to raise money about these 99 orphans. Some events we may post a video on are an ice cream social, movie night, and a video game party. We will keep you guys posted about upcoming events.

Preparations

Each committee of our team was busy working on something during our meeting yesterday.  Alhamdulillah, we were able to make headway on our preparations for our upcoming MIST event, where the 99 Orphan team will give a presentation.  We were also able to come up with ideas for future events and have already scheduled an exciting event that I will keep secret for now.  :)

Video Committee Update/ CAIR PICS

So far we have made one video.  The video was basically and introduction to what we are doing this year and it advertised the bake sale.  We want to be able to make a video once every 3 weeks.  Some ideas we have are a statistical video,  more videos advertising different events we have, and maybe some skits.  To make a statistical video we have to do some research online and on the ZF website.  In the adverting videos we could advertise events like the video game party,  ice cream social, and other things.  We need some ideas for skits.


  As you probably already know we went to the CAIR fundraiser  and set up a table to let more people know about our project.  Here are some more Pics:

Visual Arts Committee

I, Yousuf Ahmed am a part of the 99 Orphans Visual Arts Committee. Our role in the 99 Orphans team is to make Visuals, such as posters to advertise upcoming events that will be later held to raise money for our orphans. Each meeting we come up with new ideas to raise money, and then the Visual Committee makes posters about or advertising our upcoming event. So far the 99 Orphans group has raised money for 10 Orphans and we're definitely not done yet. At our next event you could donate some money and put a smile on the face of an orphan.

Message from the Events Committee

Assalamualaikum, we have been taking the different events that we discussed in our last meeting, and assigned jobs to them. For the ice-cream social there would be people who serves the food, takes the order, collect money, make the ice-cream, and someone to check off the orders that have been made. For the cookie day, all we need is for people to bake the cookies and bag them. Then for movie night we will need people to set up the chairs, make popcorn (shifts throughout the movie), and clean up. For bowling, roller skating, and Chuck E Cheese there isn't much to do. All we need to do is plan a date and advertise. The Kohl's gift card we just have buy a card and put money in it (each give $5-10).

10 Orphans and Counting

The 99 Orphan team concluded our third official meeting yesterday with a positive attitude.  Discussing ideas for future events and analyzing the results of our recent bake sale, we excitedly prepared to continue raising money for orphans.  After a few calculations, our treasurer informed us that, alhamdulillah, we have raised a total of $6,148 so far, not counting pledges from generous donors and eager youth teams.  We have already sponsored ten orphans and need only $452 left for our eleventh orphan.  Will you catch this chance to earn reward from Allah?  Will you be the one to put a smile on the face of an orphan?  You can view options for donating on our Donate page. 

Alhamdulillah, our bake sale for our Palestinian orphans was very successful, thanks to all those who supported us.  We are grateful for everyone who cooked, brought their families to eat, spread the word about our cause, and donated.  Check out some pictures below of the great evening.

Alhamdulillah, we were able to raise over $2,000 from the bake sale, enough for more than three orphans!  May Allah reward everyone who helped to make it a success.

Bake sale 3/18/14

Asalama Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu,

Today we had an amazing Bake Sale, with delicious goodies, to help raise money for  Palestinian orphans! We had many different Palestinian foods and cupcakes to form a Palestinian flag. With the money raised today, we sponsored three orphans.  People donated extremely generously! Jazakallah Khairun to everybody who could make it today!

99 Orphans at the CAIR Banquet

Asalama Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuhu,

We are happy to announce that a number of our members at the 99 Orphans have hosted a stand to raise awareness for our cause at the 8th Annual Gala Banquet by CAIR-Philadelphia! Last Saturday, on the 15th of March, we hosted a table, informing numerous people about our cause, and got to stand in front of Muslim leaders like Zaid Shakir and Azhar Usman.

Currently, the Events Committee has organized the general organization and job layout for the bake sale tomorrow, and we are planning out all of the events we plan to host in the future. I want to personally say thank you to all of the people who helped us out last year, and made 99 Orphans 2013 a true success. Inshallah, we hope that this year we go above and beyond the last, and raise even more money to sponsor orphans!

Progress

Assalamualaikum.  We have successfully started our project for raising money for 99 Orphans in the year 2014. Inshallah we will be hosting our first bake sale on Tuesday March 18, 2014 at the ZF Center, starting at 6:30 pm. The bake sale is hosted towards helping the orphans in Palestine. The team hosts a meeting every week to discuss upcoming events and goals. We are hoping to reach our goal and hopefully move past it.

Bake Sale

Come out and support our Palestinian orphans at our bake sale. There you can be enjoying delicious Palestinian food. There will be many yummy desserts too. Your donation will help these kids have clothes, food, and education. The bake sale will be at the Zakat Foundation, on March 18, 6:30 to 8:30.

6 Orphans and Counting!

The 99 Orphan team members are excitedly getting into the spirit of raising money for our orphans.  Alhamdulillah, we have already raised enough for 6 of our orphans!! 

During our second official meeting of the year yesterday, we discussed our strategies and mainly planned for our bake sale on March 18th.  We are thoroughly excited to see how much we can raise for our Palestinian orphans next Tuesday, even though we are cooking for the bake sale.  (Aren't you excited to find out what the 99 Orphan team members can come up with in the kitchen?) 

One important part of our meeting was determining days of the week for the various committees to write on the site.  A representative from each committee will report what his/her committee has been doing each week.  Follow our website to get a taste of different perspectives of what it's like being in the orphan project.  Every committee is in charge of doing something different so you'll see lots of variety in the coming days, insha Allah.
